A Smarter Engine Behind The App
This update doesn't add a feature you can tap. It adds something better: a Project Proctor that learns what you actually use, so the next thing we build is the one you actually need.
We just shipped one of the most important updates Project Proctor has had - and you won't see it on the surface.
For the last few weeks, we've been rebuilding the part of the app that watches how Project Proctor gets used on real job sites. Not to surveil you. To figure out where the app is helping, where it's getting in your way, and where the next round of improvements needs to go.
What Shipped
38 in-app events instrumented across the core flows - daily logs, photo uploads, change orders, Supe interactions, project updates, team activity
Email infrastructure migrated to Customer.io- Faster, smarter, behavior-aware. The right message at the right moment instead of a calendar of generic blasts.
7 new event hooks queued for the next release - paywall views, Supe interactions, photo uploads, team invites. The data we need to make the next set of improvements land in the right place.
Why It Matters
For 20 years on Department of War and USACE programs across Japan, Guam, the Middle East, and Africa, the projects that ran well had one thing in common: a real feedback loop. You knew what was working. You knew what was slipping. You adjusted before it cost you.
Most software doesn't get built that way. Features ship, the team hopes for the best, and they don't know what's getting used until users churn and won't say why.
We don't want to run Project Proctor that way. The instrumentation that shipped this month is how we make sure the next feature we build is the one you actually need - not the one we guessed at.
What You'll Notice
A few things will start to feel different over the next few weeks:
Emails that land at the right moment. Hit your fifth daily log? You'll hear from us with a tip from 20 years of field work. Haven't used Supe in two weeks? We'll send the three prompts that usually flip the switch. No more "newsletter for the sake of newsletter."
A changelog that keeps up. This post is the first in a new rhythm. We're committing to publishing what we ship, when we ship it. If you check back here in two months and nothing new has posted, send me an email and call it out.
Faster fixes on the rough edges. When the data shows a step is bleeding users, we see it now. We didn't always.
What's Next
The next big release is squarely focused on Supe — sharper, faster, and better at pulling from the project data you've already built. Supe is the feature that pays back the most hours, and it's the one we hear the most "I had no idea it could do that" feedback on. We're working on closing that gap.
We're just getting started.
